Information on Paget's disease of bone
Paget's disease is a metabolic bone disease, which occurs in middle-aged and elderly. The other name of Paget's disease is osteitis deformans. It is a chronic condition in which the distribution and bone tissue formation increases, causing a deformation. They occur most often in the pelvis and leg bones, skull and lumbar spine. May cause bone pain, deformities and fractures. Paget's disease may be caused by a virus "slow" infection, present for many years before symptoms appear. There is also a hereditary factor because the disease may appear in more family member of one.
Paget's disease may affect only one or two areas of your body, or can be generalized. The disease Paget's disease tends to run in families. It may be present in at least 25 percent to 40 percent of the parents of a person suffering from the disease. It is also more common among people of Anglo-Saxon. Many patients do not know they have Paget's disease because they have a light without any symptoms. Sometimes symptoms can be confused with arthritis or other disorders.
Paget's disease of bone causes bone to grow and lower than normal. They could also break easily. The disease can cause health problems, too, such as arthritis and hearing loss. You can have the bone disease Paget, but is most common in the spine, pelvis, skull and legs. The disease can affect one or more bones, but not the whole skeleton. More men than women with the disease. It is more common the elderly.
Paget's disease is rare among people under 40. It is more common in older people. We do not know how to prevent Paget's disease occurs. A healthy diet with adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D and exercise are important components in maintaining skeletal health and joint mobility.
Paget's disease causes bones to become too large and small. You can have Paget's disease in a bone in his body, but most people have in his column spine, pelvis, skull or leg bones. The disease can affect bone or several bones, but does not affect the entire skeleton. Bones with Paget's disease can break more easily, and the disease can cause health problems.
